The giant woolly mammoth, extinct for 10,000 years, once roamed the far north for a period of 40,000 years. Tusks from this ice age elephant are found along riverbeds and glaciers. It is prized for jewelry because of it's colors and woodgrain like patterns that adorn the ivory.
